Former city councillor Saulie Zajdel, from Côte des Neiges-Notre Dame de Grâce  borough has been arrested by Quebec’s Permanent Anti Corruption Unit. His arrest was coupled with the arrests of Montreal City Mayor Michael Applebaum, who served as the borough’s mayor for many years and Jean-Yves Bisson, the former borough’s former director of permits.

Saulie Zajdel served in many capacities in the Jewish community over the years including the Executive Director of Bnai Brith Canada’s Quebec office. Most recently he ran unsuccessfully as a candidate for the Conservative Party in the Mount Royal riding during the last federal election.

Very very disappointed in Saulie. I wasted my vote on him in 2011. He has forever now burned his bridges with the Conservative Party. I hope that we can get a really credible candidate like Neil Drabkin who we had in 2006 to fight the fight now that Irwin Cotler is retiring.

Let us remember that these individuals are innocent until proven guilty, by the the rule of law.

Lets remember that both Mr Zajdel and Mr Applebaum have been interviewed NUMEROUS times by the police. A 6am knock at the door with an arrest warrant means that a judge has seen enough evidence to issue an arrest… I am quite sure there is enough reason to doubt their innocence….
(FYI – I am a supporter of Mr Zajdel and did vote for him in 2011)
